Will 2016 be YOUR year? Will you change everything and become a better person? Eat healthy, exercise daily, study properly, maybe quit smoking, and whatnot..? New year, new me!?
I've given up on new year's resolutions a while back because, let's face it, they never come true. But with so much stuff going on in my life lately, I felt so overwhelmed that I had to take a step back and evaluate what is important to me and where I wanted to go.
And I figured that I've accumulated so much stuff and so much baggage that is dragging me down..
So I got a new year's resolution for 2016:
L E S S
Less clutter. Less procrastination. Less stress. Less interferences. Less fights. Less negativity. Less excess. Less weight.
Maybe you know the feeling when everything is just too much. When your To Do-List is getting longer and longer, no matter how much shit you're getting done. When you're ashamed to open the door to the mailman because your flat is an absolute mess. When you pull the plug on the phone because you just can't stand your parents nagging anymore.
2015 has been a very hard year for me. There is just so much uncertainty in my life.
I don't know where we are going to live, I don't know if I will get a job with my degree, if I will be able to support myself, and so on..
My anxiety got really bad, but I don't want to get too much into deatil right now.
I noticed something important: I need to get my current situation in order rather than worrying about the stuff that I will have to face someday.
LESS CLUTTER
So I started by decluttering our flat. Seriously, I still can't wrap my head around how much stuff I was able to fit on 41m². It's unimaginable.
Im far from done, but so far I've made roughly 600€ on ebay and got a reprimand from the landlord to book a dumpster, as the space in the standard garbage bins is limited. I really threw out loads and loads of stuff.
LESS EXCESS
The good thing that came with decluttering is a ceasing urge to buy new stuff. It became so apparent to me that I rarely use most of the stuff I bought. There is so much I wanted to learn, wanted to do, wanted to make - but I never did. And let's be honest, I never will.
But that's okay. I want to focus on the few things I can and love or at least like to do.
All the other stuff is just taking up space, gathering dust and making me feel guilty. So no need to buy more.
LESS PROCRASTINATION
As I am terrified of exams - or just doing bad at exams, I really don't know - I tend to procrastinate. But it doesn't end there. Everything that could cause problems in my life I tend to postpone until I absolutely can't ignore it any longer. That's anything, from administrative issues to payments.
And that's, you guessed it, causing more and more problems over time.
I honestly don't know how I did it, but in the last months I just forced myself to pick up the phone and just get shit done. Just fight through papers and calls and appointments and more papers and papers and... It was so exhausting.
As with decluttering, I'm far from done but it helped to ease my thoughts and I feel so much better now. I need to keep this up.
And all in all it didn't hurt.
LESS FIGHTS
As I was struggling to organize our flat and our paperwork, I got extremely sensitive towards my husband. He just doesn't care about the household as I do. This might be cliché but those dirty dishes... ugh. He just lets them sit there for weeks.
And those dirty socks everywhere. I'm not joking, they are just EVERYWHERE.
But is this really worth fighting over?
He is coping with all my flaws and shortcomings and is supporting me in so many ways. And I'm nagging about trivia.
LESS WEIGHT
It's always been an up and down with my weight, especially during the last 5 years or so. During that time, my highest weigt has been 120.8kg and my lowest has been 47.2kg at 171cm height.
Since the 47.2kg in 2013 I have gained a lot. And it seems that I am just not able to stop that. It is so frustrating.
Besides keeping all the good tendencies from last year up, this is my big issue to tackle. I'll keep you posted.
